British travellers heading for Eastern Europe

28/09/2007

The profusion of low cost flights, reliably good weather and cheap accommodation is prompting more and more Britons to holiday in Eastern Europe, according to currency exchange figures.

Statistics from the Post Office show that the Polish Zloty and the Bulgarian rouble were the second and third most in demand currencies among UK holidaymakers.

Commenting on the figures, John Howells, head of travel services for the Post Office, told Travelmole.com: "Accommodation in many Polish and Bulgarian cities is cheap and the costs of holiday essentials like food, drink and excursions are relatively low, making them great value for summer tourists in search of sun and culture that does not cost the earth."

Demand for Chinese Yuan, for use in Hong Kong, and Maltese Lira, was also revealed to be increasing, with the result that they are now among the most requested currencies at Post Offices.

Britons increasing enthusiasm for travel in general is also reflected by the statistics, with demand for foreign currencies almost doubling when compared with 2006 figures.
