Holiday Insurance Tips
- Buy your holiday insurance as soon as you book your holiday
Buy your holiday insurance as soon as you book your holiday, so that you have cancellation cover in place straight away. If you don't buy your holiday insurance until just before you go on holiday you could lose your money if you need to cancel your holiday due to illness or redundancy.
Another good reason to buy holiday insurance as soon as you've booked your holiday is to ensure that you are covered under the travel delay section for delays due to strike action. If you buy your holiday insurance after any strike dates are announced you would not be covered. In the current economic climate strikes seem to be an ever present threat to our holidays, with recent strikes in Greece and Italy affecting holiday flights. Because you never know when a strike might be announced the best thing to do is buy holiday insurance as soon as you've booked your holiday.
Choosing the right level of holiday insurance cover
Insurewithease.com offers three levels of holiday insurance cover, Silver, Gold and Platinum. If you are not sure which holiday insurance policy you should choose, here are some tips that might help.
- Consider the level of Cancellation Cover included in your holiday insurance
Think about the cost of your holiday. The amount of cancellation cover in the holiday insurance you choose should reflect the cost of your holiday, otherwise you could find yourself out of pocket.
Remember, the levels of holiday insurance cover we quote are per person, for example our Platinum holiday insurance provides Cancellation Cover up to £7,500 per person.
- Consider the amount of Personal Possessions cover in your holiday insurance
Another thing to consider when choosing holiday insurance is the value of the personal possessions that you will be taking with you on holiday. Again, we offer three levels of holiday insurance cover with differing levels of cover for your personal property. Make sure that your holiday insurance includes an appropriate level of cover to reflect the value of the items that you will be taking on holiday with you.
Remember when you are on holiday, you should always keep valuable items on your person or in a locked safe, otherwise they are unlikely to be covered by your holiday insurance if they are lost or stolen.
- Consider the excess payable if you need to make a claim on your holiday insurance
When choosing holiday insurance cover look at the excess amount. The excess is the amount that you would have to pay towards the cost of claim on your holiday insurance and it varies according to the level of holiday insurance cover that you choose. For instance the standard excess payable on our Silver holiday insurance is £100, whereas on our Platinum holiday insurance the excess reduced to £35.
Whichever level of holiday cover you choose it's important to have holiday insurance in place every time you travel.
Sarah Findlay, marketing manager at insurewithease.com says, Buying holiday insurance is one of the most important aspects of preparing for your holiday and should not be forgotten. Leaving home without your favourite t-shirt might leave you a bit disappointed and with nothing to wear for a night out, but that's where the risk ends. Leaving home without holiday insurance could cost you dearly if you fall ill or have an accident whilst you're on holiday. The Foreign and commonwealth office helped over 3700 Brits who were hospitalised abroad in the last 12 months. Although the FCO can offer assistance if you are hospitalised on holiday, they don't pick up the cost, that's where you're holiday insurance comes in.
