60,000 holidaymakers face holiday meltdown
04/08/2011
The collapse of Brighton based holiday specialist Holidays 4 U has meant that thousands of holidaymakers might be left out of pocket, and face despair as their long awaited for holiday plans to Turkey are no more.
The Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed that all flights and packages sold by Holidays 4 U, who also traded as Aegean Flights, will be protected under its ATOL. Customers who have bought flight only deals will not be refunded for the accommodation they bought separately.
When you book individual elements of your holiday, such as flights and accommodation, independently, you don't automatically get the same level of financial protection as you would if you booked a package holiday through a tour operator or travel agent. This is when having Scheduled Airline Failure cover as part of your Travel Insurance becomes important. All insurewithease.com policies come with Scheduled Airline Failure as standard.
Travel association ABTA have said that 12,800 travellers were abroad with the company and they were all in Turkey. An additional 20,000 bookings had been taken by the company prior to the announcement that they had gone into administration.
The CAA have said that those who are already abroad will be able to continue their holidays and will still be able to fly home as planned. All future departures to Turkey for passengers who booked through the operator have been cancelled.
