A380 to touch down in London

18/03/2008

Singapore Airline's first Airbus A380 flight to London will be touching down at Heathrow Airport today, in what will be the first of its kind to Europe.

The carrier is currently the only airline operating the "superjumbo", which is carrying 449 passengers to the UK today.

Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines executive vice president of marketing and the regions, said that seats on both legs of the "inaugural" flight were "snapped up" when it was announced in January.

"The strong demand we are witnessing highlights the superiority of the Singapore Airlines A380 product," he commented.

The airline is "extremely heartened" that customers are "relishing the opportunity" to experience the services it offers, he added.

Donna Casey, spokesperson for BAA Heathrow, recently said that aviation showed significant growth in 2007, with both business travel and transatlantic travel having increased.

Ms Casey said that New York, Dubai and Sydney are among the most popular long-haul destinations.
