Adventurous holidaymakers reminded to buy backpackers travel insurance following rise in trips
18/11/2009
A leading adventure travel company has added 185 new trips this year following a rise in demand for gap year trips, but clients are reminded not to overlook the need for backpackers travel insurance.
Gap Adventures (www.gapadventures.com) has trips to seven continents in its new brochure, out now, many of which include adventurous activities.
Anyone planning such a trip is reminded not only to buy suitable travel insurance but also to make sure that it covers any activities featured in the itinerary.
Some activities enjoyed by backpackers, such as white water rafting and bungee jumping, are considered hazardous by travel insurance companies and will only be covered on payment of an additional premium.
Backpackers are advised to check their itinerary carefully and discuss activities listed with their travel insurance broker.
Gap Adventures offers trips from as little as £100 to as much as £5,000 plus. Included is a Great South American Journey from Rio to Lima, lasting 68 days, and an 81-day trip from Marrakech to Cairo.
Not all the new trips added by Gap Adventures are aimed at backpackers, however, and, in spite of the company name, many are short trips of two weeks or less.
New trips this year include a seven-day Thailand Sailing Adventure, which includes island-hopping, diving and sailing, a nine-day Northern Philippines Adventure with trekking through mountainous forests, and two-weeks in Kenya and Uganda with safari drives to view gorillas in the wild.
