Air passengers say Heathrow is the worst airport in the world

26/10/2009

A worldwide survey of airline passengers has revealed that London Heathrow is officially the worst airport in the world.

The survey of members of Priority Pass, a VIP airport lounge programme, placed the mega hub at the bottom of an airport league table for the second year running.

Members from 160 countries took part in the survey, which revealed that Singapore's swish Changi airport was the best, followed by Hong Kong's relatively new Chek Lap Kok.

Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport was the best of the bunch in Europe, according to Priority Pass members, who are almost all frequent flyers.

The travellers who took part in this survey took almost 250,000 flights between them over the last year, and that means they know a thing or two about airports said Jonathan French, Head of Brand for Priority Pass.

Sadly, Heathrow remains firmly entrenched as the airport the world loves to hate.""

Passengers using Heathrow's newest terminal, T5, seem to be happy with the experience since it has recovered from its initial teething problems.

However, passengers using terminals 2, 3 and 4 have a less positive experience, though the Civil Aviation Authority says flight punctuality at Heathrow is improving. The average delay is down to just 10 minutes.

Heathrow's biggest problem appears to be its size and it is not alone amongst large airports in attracting criticism.

Paris Charles de Gaulle was voted the second worst airport followed by Los Angeles, Frankfurt International and Miami International.
