Air travellers oppose in-flight mobile phone use
29/10/2007
Brits are overwhelmingly opposed to mobile phones being used to planes, it has been revealed.
Plans were revealed recently by Ofcom to allow airlines to install base stations, which would enable passengers to use mobiles at a height of 3,000ft or more.
However, according to findings from travel website TripAdvisor, 78 per cent of British flyers would be against such a move.
The survey also showed the increasing emergence of adventure holidays, despite beach-based breaks remaining more popular overall.
Among those opting for active breaks the most popular type was revealed to be walking holidays (12 per cent), sailing trips (nine per cent) adventure holidays (seven per cent) and cycling sojourns (five per cent).
This is reflected in more and more far-flung destinations predicted to become more popular for holidays over the next year.
Michelle Perry, director of communications at TripAdvisor said: "Based on TripAdvisor's TravelCast, the top emerging world destination is Jerba, Tunisia - and Thailand is the hottest country, featuring two destinations in the world's top ten."
