05/10/2007

The volume of first and second class passengers travelling on British Airways (BA) flights increased during September, it has been revealed.

According to the carrier's latest traffic figures, premium travel was up by 6.6 per cent during the month.

However, total traffic on the firm's fleet decreased by 0.7 per cent, while decline was also noted among economy class passenger, where volume fell by two per cent.

News of the firm's performance comes in the week that it announced it is to acquire 12 Airbus A380 and 24 Boeing 787 aircraft between 2010 and 2014 – the firm's largest aircraft order for ten years.

The aircraft will be used on long-haul flights and will be "greener, quieter and more fuel efficient" with much lower CO2 emissions, according to BA.

BA also has an option for a further seven A380s and 18 of Boeing's 787 planes.
