BA offers flexible holidays online but say "baaaah" to its travel insurance

08/07/2009

British Airways is offering tailor-made holidays on its website for the first time, but customers should look elsewhere for cheaper travel insurance.

Customers logging on to Ba.com can choose from 4,000 hotels including big chains Marriott, InterContinental, Sheraton and Hilton as well as independent properties plus sightseeing trips, tours, car hire and fly-drive packages.

All trips are financially protected under the ATOL scheme so customers are guaranteed a full refund if any service provider including the airline, goes bust.

Users can search based on price, type of hotel and location and compare their top three choices. They can also choose their hotel direct from a Microsoft map.

BA's strategy and business units director Robert Boyle said: ""This new feature is a huge step forward for ba.com and our customers. It is simple and easy to use and allows us to offer a new range of exciting hotel, car rental and tourist experiences packaged together at better prices than ever before.""

However, customers who shop around will find cheaper travel insurance elsewhere. BA's cheapest premium for a 3-day trip to Europe is £8, insurewithease.com charges £5; BA charges £27 for a 2-week long-haul holiday, while insurewithease.com premiums start at £13.30.
