BA "will be official 2012 sponsor"

30/01/2008

British Airways (BA) is going to be announced as the official airline for the 2012 Olympics in an estimated £50 million deal, according to a source.

It is a turnaround for the company which had previously ruled itself out of the running, reports Marketing magazine.

The company recently announced it will stop its sponsorship of the London Eye, with this money now being focussed on the Olympic partnering, suggests the magazine.

BA will join other official sponsors, including Lloyds TSB, Adidas and EDF Energy, as tier-one partners.

The magazine predicted that a campaign for the Terminal 5 launch next month will be the first to carry the 2012 logo.

BA announced yesterday that it plans to expand its operations in the Middle East and Asia as growth is slow on North America, reported GulfNews.

The announcement will be some good news for the airline amid current predictions of a mass walk out of its pilots which could leave tens of thousands of passengers stranded, according to This is London.
