Bilbao is "an international hotspot"
10/03/2008
The Spanish city of Bilbao offers both quiet days and a "hopping" nightlife, according to the Lonely Plant's commissioning editor for Spain and Portugal.
Korina Miller states the destination - which is the largest city in the Basque region - is a "vibrant metropolis" and is developing increasing "kudos" with international tourists.
"Those after something more cultural than beach resorts and slightly off the beaten track are tuning into Bilbao's charm. With an atmospheric old town, surrounding green hills, hip nightlife and beaches on the doorstep, there's little left to long for," she states.
Ms Miller also claims the city offers the chance to take in some key cultural attractions as Bilbao is home to the Guggenheim museum, an "atmospheric" old town and the chance to take in a number of sidewalk cafes.
Cityguide.co.uk describes the Guggenheim as "a vast titanium-clad structure in the centre of Bilbao and has 11,000 square meters of exhibition space distributed in 19 galleries".
