Britons drawn to ski-ing holidays

01/10/2007

Ski-ing holidays look set to boom this winter, with one travel agent noting that it has seen record bookings.

With ski-ing season imminent, figures from Ryanair, show that 200,000 Brits are planning to travel to Europe this season.

However, after lower altitude resorts saw patchy snowfall last Autumn, it is those at high altitude that are likely to be the most busy as holidaymakers attempt to guarantee themselves good conditions - according to Litsa Constantinou of ski holiday specialist Inghams.

She said: "The most popular destinations so far include Canada and Lapland as well as the higher resorts in Switzerland, Austria, France and Italy."

News of the apparent boom in ski-ing holidays comes as a recent survey from American Express showed that 50,000 skiers and snowboarders were rescued from the French Alps last year - a figure underlining the particular importance of taking out travel insurance on ski-ing trips.
