Brits advised to plan family holidays "well in advance"

Brits have been advised to plan their family holidays well in advance to avoid being disappointed with their trips abroad.

According to the Association of Independent Tour Operators (Aito), in the current economic climate a growing number of people are booking their holidays early to ensure they get the best deal.

Ian Bradley, spokesperson for Aito, said: "If you are thinking of going on holiday next year start thinking about it now.

"The last minute market at the moment is pretty quiet and the trend that I have seen from Aito members is that future bookings are looking very healthy."

He added that holidaymakers who look the furthest ahead will get the best deal and noted that thinking about where to go in October half-term now is "almost too late already".

The 2008 ebookers travel Opinion Report found that 51 per cent of Brits are now booking their breaks in advance as a result of the credit crunch.

It also revealed that more than half of those polled consider holidays as either important or an absolute necessity - only 12 per cent viewed them as a luxury.
