Brits hang on to their holidays

11/08/2008

Brits will be hanging on to their holidays this year despite the credit crunch, one expert has said this week.

The editor of the Lonely Planet travel book series Tom Hall claims that taking time out to relax somewhere other than home is an important part of UK residents' lifestyle.

He adds that it is one luxury they are not prepared to give up and will be flexible to maintain.

Mr Hall explained: "There are signs that the late bookings market is strong."

He added: "People are increasingly aware that if you want real value when you are in your destination you need to get outside of the euro zone and that can mean mid-haul or long-haul."

Furthermore according to the expert, people will manage to go on holiday despite tightening budgets by shopping around and seeing where their cash will stretch furthest.

A report from International Air travel Association has revealed that world passenger numbers were up 3.8 per cent in June, compared with the same month in 2007.
