Brits taking extra holiday day

08/10/2007

Just over one in four Britons find they need an extra day of rest to recover from their holiday, new research has shown.

According to figures from travelsupermarket.com, 27 per cent of workers confessed to taking an extra day to act as a "buffer" between their idyllic holidays and returning to work.

In order to secure the extra day, four in ten of those invented imaginary illnesses to act as a cover for their absence, while one in eight claims they experienced problems with their flight.

Kayte Williams, holidays manager at Travelsupermarket, said: "For many people, their holiday is so hotly anticipated when it's over, it is a massive anti-climax. For others, a jam-packed break means they are more exhausted on their return than when they left.

"Our advice is to perhaps take shorter holidays, more often if you can. That way the pain of returning to work, and the need for a buffer day, should be lessened - in theory at least.

"Or just be honest with yourself and book off an extra couple of days - your employer will thank you."
