Brits tying the knot in Spain and Caribbean

12/08/2008

An increasing number of Brits are choosing to tie the knot in sun-soaked destinations, one expert has said this week.

The British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) claims that those engaged to be married have had enough of the unreliable English weather and taking their nuptials abroad to avoid it.

Peter Staddon, a spokesperson for Biba, said: "Many couples feel they are being taken for a ride in the UK and also that they cannot guarantee good British weather."

He added that many people opt for one of the Mediterranean or Caribbean islands to get married in, as they are more or less guaranteed sunshine in these destinations.

According to a poll of 2,571 people conducted by First Choice travel Shops and Holiday Hypermarket, 80 per cent of Brits consider saying 'I do' abroad less stressful than a traditional white wedding at home.

Furthermore, 57 per cent said they would consider getting married on foreign shores to avoid family feuds.
