Bullish holidaymakers plan to travel more but eat out less next year
23/12/2009
We might be in the middle of the worst recession since World War II, but most of us are planning to take more holidays next year even if it means we have to go without luxury goods and meals out, according to a new survey.
Travel website Travelzoo.com, which publishes travel and entertainment deals, says more than half of its 1.6milliion subscribers in the UK will take more trips in 2010 than in 2009.
They will, according to Travelzoo, travel more than their European counterparts, even though they may be coming out of the recession that continues to engulf the UK.
Travelzoo said 66 per cent of its UK members plan to take at least one trip next year, and 31 per cent plan to take three or more.
Of those trips, 76 per cent will be short breaks or week long holidays taken before May. Three quarters of trips will be outside the UK, with Spain continuing to be rated as the top holiday destination.
Most of the 9,000 plus UK members who responded to the Travelzoo survey said they would only travel if they found a good deal. Good deals on travel insurance can be found at insurewithease.com.
It seems that we Brits are prepared to give up most things for the sake of a holiday. Twenty-six per cent told Travelzoo they would give up eating out, 22% would give up home improvements and 52% would give up luxury goods rather than sacrifice their holiday.
