03/07/2009

Fancy a weekend in the Big Apple? Well, you'll soon be able to fly direct from the City to New York with British Airways, but in your hurry to escape don't forget to buy worldwide travel insurance for your transatlantic break.

British Airways' first transatlantic flights from the Docklands have already gone on sale. Its daily return service to JKF will start on September 29.

The airline is offering an all-business class service, 6 days a week. London City Airport is closed on Saturdays. The service will increase to 2 flights daily from mid-October.

Weekend fares start at a little over £1,900 return. A fully-flexible ticket costs £5,625.

Fitted with just 32 seats, which convert to flat beds, the aircraft will make a refueling stop at Shannon in the west of Ireland, where passengers will be able to clear US Customs and Immigration. Return flights will be non-stop from New York.

BA chief executive Willie Walsh said: ""Every aspect of this service has been designed to maximise convenience for customers to fly between the world's two biggest business centres ? Wall Street and London's extended financial district in the City and Docklands.
