Canada: Electronic authorisation required from 2016
19/11/2015
From 15 March 2016 Canada is introducing new entry requirements for those visitors who don’t need a visa. This include British citizens.
The new Electronic Travel Authorisation will be a requirement for all visitors who are arriving in Canada by air, it will not be needed if you are entering by land or sea.
eTAs can be applied for now online at the official Canadian government’s website and cost 7 CAD (approximately £3.50).
The eTA, which is electronically linked to you passport, will be valid for 5 years or until your passport expires. You can travel to Canada as many times as you like until the eTA expires.
Canada Travel insurance
When travelling to Canada it is vital to have travel insurance in place. Travel insurance will provide protection against large medical bills if you fall ill or have an accident, as well as covering your personal possessions and cancellation.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office recommends that you have comprehensive travel insurance every time you travel.
