Cape Town is the new place to be seen
18/11/2009
South Africa will be the hottest destination of 2010, according to British Airways (www.ba.com), which has revealed its top 10 holiday hot spots for next year.
Cape Town is expected to attract tens of thousands of football fans next summer when South Africa hosts the FIFA World Cup, putting it on top of the list of most desirable locations.
Sue Botes, BA commercial manager in South Africa, said: Cape Town has always been a popular destination, we expect the World Cup to push it to the top of the long haul league table as the best place to be in 2010.
We are already preparing for the event and have additional flights in place, as well as our local carrier Comair to connect fans to destinations around the republic.""
Istanbul, Europe's Capital of Culture for 2010, is in second place, followed by Las Vegas, whose appeal has been increased due to the release of the film 'The Hangover'.
Also on the list are Vancouver, host to the Winter Olympic Games in February and March, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, which BA describes as 'one of the best kept property secrets in recent times'. No doubt the airline is hoping the island does not remain secret much longer as it has new flights to sell.
Closer to home, Dubrovnik is the place to be next year. Already a popular hang-out for A-list celebrities such as Beyonce and Jay-Z, it is one of the more relaxing cities for a mini-break.
