Castellammare di Stabia in Italy to ban miniskirts
25/10/2010
A new law will be enforced in Castellammare di Stabia in Italy that will ban miniskirts, low-cut jeans and any other clothing of a revealing nature.
The mayor of Castellammare di Stabia, Luigi Bobbio, believes the new rules will ‘restore urban decorum and facilitate better civil co-existence'. He also hopes the law will help to reduce the number of sexual harassment cases in Castellammare di Stabia. He has stressed though, that short skirts will be allowed - only very short skirts that show off underwear will be banned. But how will women know for sure whether or not their skirts are too short?
Offenders that decide to flout the new law could face a hefty fine of up to 500 Euros. But how will this new law affect the seaside town of Castellammare di Stabia, particularly in the summer months? The ban on revealing clothing will not apply to people on the beach.
The new law will be aimed at unruly individuals and gangs, but all residents and anyone visiting Castellammare di Stabia must abide by the new regulations.
Castellammare di Stabia is just one of many towns across Italy that is taking advantage of the power to pass laws that have been handed down to mayors by the Prime Minister. Other laws that have cropped up include feeding stray cats, kissing in cars, wearing wooden clogs and mowing the lawn at weekends. There's even a law that has banned sandcastles.
If you plan to visit Castellammare di Stabia, or anywhere else in Italy, make sure you research the local laws before you travel. Remember to pack clothing that abides by these laws to avoid prosecution.
