Coach travel is least stressful

07/02/2008

Travelling by coach is the least stressful way to travel with passengers more likely to be relaxed than travelling by other methods, according to a new study.

Likely to be the most stressful way of travelling is train travel, in the study carried out by TTG, a travel magazine, and Leger, a holiday operator.

Plane travel came second in the stress study, which linked four families up to heart rate monitors while they travelled.

The families took all three forms of transport to travel to Disneyland Paris from Britain with reading being taken before the journeys and at 30 minute intervals.

A spokesman for Leger said that a peak in heart rate half way through the journey was seen while on the Eurostar suggesting anxiousness at entering the tunnel as a cause for this.

Pulse rate peaks were seen in the air traveller when queuing at checkout and when taking the bus to the hotel from the airport.

In comparison the coach passengers only saw small peaks when waiting for the bus to arrive and when searching for plane tickets.

Channel 4 advises that to combat stress when travelling plan your journey to the airport, check you have a valid passport and travel insurance before you go.
