Credit crunch ski tips

Online ski operator Directski.com has come up with 10 ways to save money skiing this winter.
Top of the list is to travel with a group of six or more and stay in an apartment to bring down the cost per person. If you don't have five ski buddies it suggests setting up a Facebook page to find fellow skiers.
Next, Directski recommends travelling to the ski resort by train to save on airline ski carriage costs. The ski train from London to the Alps leaves on Friday night, so you'll also get an extra day on the slopes.
Bring a grandparent with you to look after the kids and you'll save on the cost of childcare in the ski resort, says Directski. It says the cost of an extra person is cheaper than the cost of a nanny or childminder abroad, if you are self-catering.
Make a packed lunch every day and you can avoid expensive mountain restaurants. Pop into the resort supermarket to buy provisions or, if you've got a car, stock up at the nearest hypermarket where prices will be much lower.
The operator also suggests pre-booking ski tuition and ski equipment hire, which will save you time when you get to the resort though it might not be any cheaper.
If you wait until you arrive in resort you will be able to shop around for the lowest prices in ski equipment, though you're unlikely to have much choice when it comes to tuition and you could miss valuable time on the slopes.
