Dash to the States before it's too late and buy your holiday insurance here

11/08/2009

Anyone considering a holiday in the States is best advised to go sooner rather than later to take advantage of the strong pound, low prices and great value holiday insurance available.

From November this year the Air Passenger Duty on flights to the US will rise from £80 to £90 return and it will go up again next year to £120, making a trip Stateside considerably more expensive for families.

At the moment, the pound is at a 10-month high against the dollar and research by the Post Office shows the cost of holidays to the US have fallen by more than a quarter in the past six months as tour operators have cut prices to try to stimulate demand.

During the first 5 months of this year traffic to the US was down by about a fifth on last year, prompting airlines to slash fares during the summer.

Although the pound is weaker than it was this time last year, it is stronger than it was during the last travel boom to the states 7 years ago and prices in the States are lower than they were in the early part of this year.
