Defacto: Don't forget travel insurance this summer
08/08/2008
Comparison website Defacto has warned Brits not to forget their travel insurance when going abroad this summer.
It adds that holidaymakers should also ensure they have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) when travelling to the continent.
This will enable holidaymakers to get free or discounted medical care and help them access this treatment more quickly.
However, Defacto warned that an EHIC is not a replacement for travel insurance as it doesn't cover travellers for loss of luggage, delay times or having to come home early due to an unexpected illness.
Brian Brown, head of Insight at Defacto said: "You should take your travel insurance policy with you so you know who to contact in an emergency."
He added: "Always keep copies of receipts as you will need them if you need to make a claim."
In related news, David Gaskell, manager of Schofield Insurance Brokers told the Daily Telegraph that Brits holidaying on home soil should not overlook travel insurance.
He added that with the price of British holidays being “pretty high” this kind of cover is especially important.
