Delays hitting UK flights

The number of flights from UK airports departing and arriving at scheduled times declined during the second quarter of 2007 compared with the year-ago period, new figures have revealed.

Between April and June, the number of flights that departed at 15 minutes later than the designated times was down from 72 per cent to 68 per cent, according to data from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

With the exception of Stansted and Luton airports, where there was a slight improvement, a decline was evident in all airports across the UK.

The worst-performing was the London City Airport, where percentage of flights arriving or leaving on-time dipped from 72 per cent to 65 per cent.

The average length of a delay to a flight also increased at all airports from 15 minutes to 17 minutes.

Bob Tolliday, of leading consumer magazine Which?, said: "These figures are really dreadful. There were no unusual external problems for flights this spring."
