Etna eruption causes new volcanic ash cloud fears

Mount Etna, one of Europe's most active volcanoes started erupting this week, sending ash and lava high in to the sky.

Mount Etna erupts fairly regularly, usually for several days and sometimes causing the closure of the nearby Catania airport in Sicily. Currently flights are not being affected by this volcanic eruption.

At the moment it looks like we can be hopeful that flights won't be affected by the volcanic ash from Etna's eruption.

However since the volcanic ash cloud crisis in April 2010, there seems to be an ever present threat of travel plans being affected by volcanic ash.
