FIFA releases more World Cup tickets

15/04/2010

FIFA will release more than half a million tickets for the World Cup in South Africa this week, giving football fans a last chance to book a holiday of a lifetime.

All unsold tickets from participating nations have been returned to FIFA and these are being made available for purchase from April 15.

Tickets start at £50 for a category 3 ticket for anything from a first-round match to a semi-final.

Accommodation and flights are still available and prices have been slashed due to lower than anticipated demand for packages during the tournament, which kicks off on June 11.

South African travel and sports specialist Sports Escapes said prices had fallen more than 30 per cent in the run up to the month-long event.

British Airways has flights to South African from £680 return and four-star accommodation in cities hosting World Cup matches starts from £45 per person per night. Although these prices are higher than normal for the time of year, they are not as high as previously advertised for tournament dates.

As matches are being played in nine different venues right across South Africa, anyone planning to head out to the tournament might have to book accommodation in more than one city and buy internal flights too.

England will play its first match in the northwestern city of Rustenburg on June 12 against the USA; its second match will be in the southern city of Cape Town against Algeria on June 18.

Sports Escapes can offer eight days accommodation in South Africa and one internal flight from £1,600 per person based on two sharing.
