First nudist hotel opens in Turkey

27/04/2010

Hoildaymakers visiting Turkey's Aegean coast this summer can travel a little lighter following the opening of the country's first nudist hotel.

The Adaburnu-Golmar hotel, due to open on May 1, will have a clothes-off policy within its grounds. It also has a private nudist beach a 20-minute drive away.

Holidaymakers will have to cover up inside the hotel but they will be able to eat in the nude at the hotel's outdoor pool bar and dining terrace until eight every evening.

The hotel, which is sandwiched between the lively resorts of Bodrum and Marmaris, will warn holidaymakers that they must don swimwear when lying on nearby public beaches, including the one closest to the hotel which is topless only.

A free shuttle bus will take guests who want to sunbathe in the nude from the Adaburnu-Golmar hotel to a private nudist beach, which is equipped with showers, sunbeds and parasols. The beach, will only be open to foreigners to avoid offending local people, who are predominately Muslim.

The Adaburnu-Golmar is a new family-owned four-star hotel near the town of Datca. Facilities include a large outdoor pool, waterslides, a fitness centre and hamman (Turkish bath).

Peng Travel, a company specialising in nudist holidays, is offering all-inclusive packages to the Adaburnu-Golmar from £750 a week, including flights. Included in the package is a (fully-clothed) day-trip to a local village and a waterfall and a beach goody bag containing a sarong and sun cap to protect, errm, sensitive areas from sunburn.
