Four operators cancel all holidays to Kenya

23/01/2008

Four tour operators have cancelled all holidays to Kenya for the rest of the winter season.

Thomas Cook, MyTravel, First Choice and Thomson have all made the move despite the foreign office reducing its security threat warnings this week, reports the Times.

This week First Choice and Thomson, who have recently merged, returned all holidaymakers from Kenya to England, including their staff and flight crew.

This will be the company's last charter flight to go between the countries until April.

In a statement First Choice and Thomson said: "As the security and political situation in the country remains unpredictable, the decision has been taken to cancel both the First Choice and Thomson charter flight operation to Mombassa, Kenya for the winter season."

All people with holidays booked to the country will be contacted and will be offered either a free replacement holiday, or a full refund.

The travel company, Explore, has chosen to keep holidays to the country, and will no longer offer customer's a refund, reports the newspaper.

On Monday the Foreign Office relaxed travel advice to Kenya and is now advising against travel to certain areas on Kenya.
