Glasgow to get cash injection

BAA plans to spend millions on Glasgow Airport to improve the facilities and build a skyhub, according to sources.

The company has announced a 50 per cent increase in spending on improvements at the Scottish airport to almost £25 million, reports TravelDailyNews.

Improvements in the pipeline include improving flooring and seating in the terminal, and increased security measures.

A large proportion of the money will go on building a 4,000 sq metre skyhub, which is currently under construction, reports the news website.

Gordon Dewar, managing director, said: "It promises to be an exciting year for the city's airport.

"This investment underlines BAA's commitment to Glasgow Airport, and to the west of Scotland, for the long-term."

The skyhub will offer passengers one departure area, a wider range of shops and restaurants and aims to reduce security waiting times.

Glasgow Airport is Scotland's main airport for long haul flights, handling almost nine million passengers a year and flying to over 80 destinations.
