Holiday firm offers free balloon rides ? but clients must have adequate holiday insurance

23/06/2009

Just weeks after a hot air balloon crashed in North Africa, injuring 16 tourists, a UK operator is offering a 2-for-1 deal to anyone brave enough to go for a ride in Kenya. It promises to be an awesome experience ? just make sure you take out additional holiday insurance before you go up, up and away.

Safari specialist Somak Holidays' 2-for-1 offer is open to clients booking any one of 4 safaris in the Masai Mara on selected dates until December 2010. The offer is unique to Somak and will save a couple £265.

Holidaymakers planning to take advantage of this offer or book any balloon trips overseas are advised to take out additional travel insurance cover as hazardous activities of this nature are not normally covered by standard travel insurance.

Though a balloon ride may seem fairly tame, the recent crash in Luxor, Egypt, during which the 16 passengers were flung to the ground, should serve as a reminder of the inherent dangers of such activities. Two of the passengers sustained serious injuries and one had to be flown back to the UK for treatment.

Insurewithease offers additional cover for hazardous activities ? providing up to £5m for emergency medical care and repatriation costs - that can be bolted on to its worldwide travel insurance policies.
