Holidaymakers advised to make sure they are covered abroad
11/08/2008
Holidaymakers have been advised to make sure their belongings are covered when they are abroad this week.
Motoring firm the AA said Brits should consider extending their home insurance policies so that their possessions are covered when they are in foreign countries as well as in the UK.
Ian Crowder, public relations manager for the AA, said: "If you do lose your camera while you're out there, or your cases, or you have an accident when you're driving down to the south of Spain and all your stuff is damaged, then you can claim on your UK home insurance policy."
He added that the advantage of taking out such cover is that it gives holidaymakers double protection with their travel insurance in terms of baggage cover.
According to Zurich Private Clients, one in ten people do not have insurance for their holiday homes and a further 11 per cent are unsure of whether their insurance is sufficient.
