Holidaymakers urged not to forget travel insurance
18/08/2008
Holidaymakers have been urged not to forget to take out travel insurance this summer by airport car parking and hotel packages firm Holiday Extras.
According to the travel company a report issued recently by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) revealed that Brits are getting into more trouble abroad.
It stressed that incidents such as being arrested, hospitalised or losing items like passports can cost holidaymakers money and make having adequate cover in place even more important.
Foreign office minister Meg Munn said: "This report highlights what can go wrong on holiday.
"It is a reminder to all that taking out comprehensive travel insurance is a crucial part of your holiday planning and not something that should be sacrificed in order to save a few pounds."
She added that although the FCO will always try to help Brits in distress, it cannot take care of everything and she noted that holidaymakers can save themselves a lot of trouble by researching a country's local laws.
Holidaymakers have also been advised by the Association of British travel Agents to check with the FCO before heading off to Beijing for the Olympics this summer.
The association stressed the importance of having the correct visas and passports in place before travelling to China.
