Holidays in Hawaii rise in popularity thanks to TV show Lost

25/06/2010

With the cult TV programme 'Lost' coming to a close, holidays in Hawaii have grown in popularity, where many of the show's scenes were filmed. Locations used in popular TV shows or films often have an impact on tourism. When Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings Trilogy hit cinemas, fans flocked to New Zealand to experience the stunning scenery that was depicted onscreen.

Lost was filmed on Oahu, a stunning, lush Hawaiian island rimmed with white sand beaches and surrounded by turquoise ocean. Oahu is home to the famous Waikiki Beach - a popular chill out place for tourists and surfers, lined with beachfront hotels.

Holidays in Hawaii are all about relaxing on the beach and enjoying the friendly hospitality of the local people. As soon as you set foot in Hawaii it won't be long before you are adorned with leis - strings of colourful flowers worn about the neck.

Snorkelling and diving holidays in Hawaii are filled with wonders. The marine life in the crystal clear waters around the islands is spectacular and varied, and sea turtles frequent the coral reefs. You can even swim with dolphins and take whale watching boat trips.

Fish is often incorporated into Hawaiian meals, and fresh fruit grown on the islands is always on the menu. You'll probably come across many fruits that you won't have tried before.

Hawaiian people love to dance - so grab your grass skirt and do the hula! The hula is a very spiritual dance and each move has a specific meaning.

Honeymooners and couples often opt for holidays in Hawaii, as the islands are nothing short of paradise. The islands are full of hotels and bed & breakfasts that are ideal for couples looking to get away from it all.

Holidays in Hawaii should always be accompanied by travel insurance. Without it, you could face potentially high medical bills if you fall ill or need to receive medical treatment abroad. Travel insurance also covers the cost of lost luggage or travel delay. Cover for surfing, snorkelling and scuba diving to 18 metres will be included on standard policies.
