Krakow overtaking Prague for eastern Europe's no.1 spot

01/04/2008

Krakow is set to knock Prague off the top spot as eastern Europe's number one holiday destination, an industry expert has said this week.

According to Fregata travel, which has specialised in European travel for over 50 years the Krakow is a "lovely city" to visit and an up-and-coming city break destination.

Tim Campbell, manager of Fregata travel said: "Prague is always popular and that's not really news nowadays.

"But one destination that really has been up and coming for the past couple of years is Krakow. It's a lovely city and although there is not a vast amount of hotel stock there it's a lovely place to go to."

However, Mr Campbell advised that while temperatures are nicest in springtime, this season can be quite pricy.

For those watching their pennies, he suggested taking a winter trip to the Polish city, when better deals are on offer.

Last month, the Post Office speculated that eastern European holiday destinations may benefit from the credit crunch, as travellers try and seek out cheaper holidays.
