20/10/2009
London will open its first tourist office dedicated to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender visitors this week.
The Gay Tourist Office (www.gaytouristoffice.co.uk), which opens on Thursday in Soho, will provide visitors with general information about the capital plus more specific information about gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender events and attractions.
The Lisle Street tourist office will have information on hotels, travel services, magazines and brochures, arts and cultural events, news on nightlife and maps and guides.
There will also be information on sexual health services available in the capital as the centre is expected to be used by residents as well as tourists.
Visitors will also be able to book tickets for events and activities at the tourist office, which will have special offers and competitions, free entry flyers and queue jump flyers.
The office, located above Ku Bar close to Leicester Square tube station, will open Monday to Friday from 12pm till 6pm.
Although it is the first and only gay tourist office in London, which attracts more gay visitors than any other city in the world, it is not the only source of information on the capital.
Website Visitlondon.com provides information for gay visitors, including gay and lesbian friendly hotels, events, gay gyms and spas, nightclubs, concerts, bars and restaurants. The website has gay-specific travel features too.
Gay tourists can ask questions on the interactive website for other users to answer.
Visitbritain.co.uk also has several features aimed at gay visitors to the capital, including what to see and do and where to stay.
