Lonely Planet compiles world's most comical signs

A new book from every backpacker's favourite publishing company Lonely Planet exposes the least helpful, most comical signs from around the world.

Among the best contributions to Signspotting 2 are the frankly unhygienic "No Bottom Washing Here", the baffling instruction "If Door Does Not Open Do Not Enter" and the equally wrong-headed "Entrance Only. Do Not Enter".

Further highlights are a morbidly amusing sign for the inaptly named "Ha Ha Cemetery", a warning to tourists alerting them "not to laugh the natives" and a rather mixed-message from a zoo in China that implores: "Please don't hurt the animals while teasing them".

The book was compiled by Doug Lansky and is set for release next month.

Signspotting 2 is one of the first books to be released under the Lonely Planet banner since it was acquired by the BBC in a deal worth £100 million.

Lonely Planet publishes around 500 travel-related books and has also produced the TV series Lonely Planet Six Degrees, which aired on Discovery networks.
