Make a new years resolution to check your travel insurance
04/01/2010
If your motto for 2010 is 'new year, new me' then you'll need to make sure you're adequately protected by your travel insurance before attempting any new stuff while on holiday.
Anyone tempted to try out skiing, sky diving or mountaineering while overseas will probably need to take out specialist travel insurance for the whole of their trip.
Skiing and other winter sports activities are not normally covered by standard travel insurance policies, but they can be bolted on for an additional premium.
The same goes for other hazardous activities, which are categorized by travel insurance companies according to the level of risk.
Many holidaymakers often indulge in an unplanned risky activity during their trip, but anyone tempted to do so should remember to check they are covered by their travel insurance before they do so.
Hot air ballooning is a popular experience available to holidaymakers in several destinations including Egypt and Kenya, but as recent accidents have shown, it can be dangerous and therefore trips are not always covered by standard travel insurance.
Travel firm Somak Holidays (www.somak.com) is rewarding customers who book a Kenyan safari before March 31 with a two-for-the-price- of- one deal on a hot air balloon ride, which normally costs £265 per person.
Somak says the ride is often the highlight of a holiday in Kenya but anyone tempted to book should make sure they take out adequate travel insurance before they leave the UK.
