Minehead voted Britain's best value beach for travel insurance clients

03/09/2009

Travel insurance clients say Minehead in Somerset offers the best value of all Britain's beach resorts, followed closely by Ilfracome in North Devon.

A day out in Minehead costs an average of £9.10 per person compared to £9.70 in Ilfracome. The cost includes buying a typical seaside lunch of fish and chips, ice cream and a bucket and spade.

Skegness and Sidmouth also offer great value, according to clients who completed the survey by train ticket vendor trainline.com, but the North Yorkshire resorts of Scarborough and Whitby came out as the most expensive.

Scarborough came out as almost twice as pricey as Minehead, with the average spend per person per day coming to £16.95 in the Yorkshire resort.

The survey revealed costs of every day items varied hugely from one resort to the next. A stick of rock costs an average of 49p but in St Ives in Cornwall it will set you back £1.

Fish and chips cost an average of £4.81 per portion but a whopping £6.59 in Weston-super-Mare in Somerset.

Of course people taking day trips to British beach resorts don't need travel insurance, but anyone planning to visit the seaside for two days or more should make sure they are insured.

Insurewithease offers competitively priced travel insurance for domestic trips clients booking at least two days' accommodation.
