Naked vandals and kicking camels cause insurance claims

19/08/2008

What do naked vandals, kicking camels and pesky squirrels have common? They have all been cited on car insurance claims, according to one expert.

The Daily Telegraph reports that the bizarre incidents have been revealed by Elephant.co.uk, which says that things such as decomposing carrots scattered across the road have given motorists cause for concern.

Brian Martin, managing director of Elephant.co.uk, told the newspaper: "From nut-wielding squirrels, naked pedestrians and aircraft, it seems it's not just other motorists that drivers should be watching out for."

He added that the strange but true incidents show that motorists should constantly be aware of their surroundings in order to avoid having an accident.

One of the best cases the firm cited was a woman who filled up her petrol tank with shampoo rather than petrol, after mistaking two containers.

However, at least the accident-prone people had car insurance; research carried out by comparethemarket.com has revealed that drivers without cover cost other motorists £500 million per year.
