Never mind the weather, how much is the beer is what backpackers want to know
04/12/2009
Forget train timetables, hostel phone numbers and the address of the nearest internet caf?. What every backpacker needs to know is how much they'll have to pay for a pint.
So thankfully round-the-world specialist travel agency roundtheworldexperts.co.uk has launched a Global Beerometer.
For some, the cost of beer is more important than the weather forecast and could, indeed, persuade some backpackers to change the course of their round-the-world trip.
Now they can simply enter the country of their planned pub crawl into the Beerometer and see in UK pounds how much it is going to cost. Round the World Experts say this can be used to plan not only gap years but also stage weekends and global pub crawls.
According to the Beerometer, the cheapest places for a pint are Delhi in India, where you'll pay just 50p, Siem Reap in Cambodia, 69p, and Brazil's Rio De Janerio, just 75p.
London is unsurprisingly pricey at £3.20, but Dubai is even more costly at an eye-watering £4.18.
Robyn Simper, Marketing Manager for Round the World Experts, said: Knowing how much you are likely to spend in each destination on a round the world trip is an important part of the pre-trip planning.
""Our Beerometer is a simple tool that can help travellers budget in advance and head for the places that offer the best value for money.""
