New sports bag claims to make it easier to travel from your porch to the piste
19/01/2010
Any skier knows that it can be a struggle to lug skis, boards, boots and suitcases all the way from home to a ski resort and back again - so much so that many prefer to hire equipment instead.
Live Luggage (www.liveluggage.com), the company that brought you the first powered suitcases, claims to have come up with a solution, however, in the new 2012 Sports Bag.
Available in both a powered and cheaper non-powered version, this is a multi-luggage system offering a large weekend bag for heavy-duty items like ski boots, a multi-purpose rucksack and a roomy suitcase, which all zip together.
Choose the powered version and your bags will attach to a set of battery-operated wheels with an anti-gravity handle, making them feel almost weightless; the non-powered version also has an anti-gravity handle which puts the majority of the bags' weight over the wheels, making them easier to manoeuvre.
Skis or snowboards can be attached to the back of the bags and the detachable rucksack has a padded internal pocket for an MP3 player and an outside mesh pocket for soggy items such as ski gloves and goggles.
One thing to remember, however, is that these cases don't come cheap and at £445 for the powered version and £265 for the non-powered case you'll want to make sure that you have sufficient travel insurance if they are lost or damaged in transit.
