Now you can buy your holiday package with your baked beans

Just a week after House of Fraser announced it was to start selling package tours, supermarket giant Tesco has revealed it is to open holiday shops within its stores.

Tesco says it plans to open 20 dedicated shops over the next two years, during which period many of the traditional high street agents are expected to consolidate.

Teletext Holidays which has, until now, only sold flights and holidays via TV and online, is working with Tesco on the project.

Every store will have a digital screen providing holiday offers and destination video guides. Staff will also be on hand to provide additional advice.

The first Teletext-branded outlet will open at a Tesco Extra store in Pitsea, Essex in December.

Shoppers will be able to access the teletextholidays.co.uk site and get supplementary advice from a travel agent.

Teletext Holidays managing director Victoria Sanders: Customers enjoy speaking to a travel consultant and when people are busy it can save a lot of time and hassle to have someone search for the best holidays whilst they shop.""

Virgin Holidays has opened an outlet in House of Fraser's Bluewater store and it plans to open others in the southeast of England, including in Bath, Chichester and London Victoria over the next few months.

Other chain stores have been selling holidays for years and Co-op has recently rebranded two of its holidays shops in Thame Oxfordshire and Evesham Worcestershire as cooptravel.co.uk, which now allow customers to book online or direct with a consultant.

Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance can be bolted on to a standard travel insurance policy.
