Parents warned not to rely on home insurance
21/08/2008
Parents with partying kids have been warned not to rely on their home insurance to cover the damage of post-exam results celebrations.
According to Rachael Stiles of Fairinvestment.co.uk, such policies may not always cover families for damage caused to a home when offspring's social gatherings get out of hand.
She advised A-Level and GCSE pupils getting their grades to tone down their revelling, adding that parents should keep an eye on such celebrations.
The home insurance expert added: "Although accidental damage is designed to protect you, it is not necessarily valid when it comes to malicious damage inflicted by a stranger."
Parents were told to monitor the guest lists of their children's shindigs in order to prove to insurers that they are capable of taking reasonable care to prevent damage.
This could be vital to proving that they had not knowingly allowed the damage to occur, which could potentially invalidate their home insurance policies.
House parties are a topical issue at the moment with many parents away on their summer holidays and GCSE results being released today.
