Post Office urges skiers to check travel insurance
25/02/2008
The Post Office has urged skiers to check their travel insurance policies before heading-off to the slopes.
Due to heavy snowfalls in December and January, which have caused avalanches in some resorts, the provider of broadband, credit cards and postal services has advised holidaymakers to read the small print of their insurance policies for off-piste cover.
Head of travel services at the Post Office, Helen Warburton warned skiers that they need to be "fully prepared" for every eventuality on their mountain adventures.
"The costs for medical treatment in ski resorts can be very high and accidents are potentially more likely to happen with the high-risk of avalanches as well as hazards hidden under the deep snow," she explained.
Skiers should be aware that most travel insurance policies require the policyholder to be accompanied by a qualified guide or instructor when going off-piste, she added.
Earlier this month Ski Freshtracks promoted its 'Peak Experience' range of ski holidays which are aimed at the over 50s.
For skiers who are single and over 50, the tour operator is organising a "singular skiers" week in Grindelwald between March 1st and 8th this year staying at the four star Sunstar Hotel.
