More Brits are choosing Hong Kong as a holiday destination with over 600,000 people visiting last year.

Figures from the Hong Kong tourist board (HKTB) showed the number of visitors last year was up by 16 per cent on 2006, reported travel Mole.

The tourist board plans to increase on this in 2008, including getting more of the UK cruise market.

Anthony Lau, executive director at HKTB, said: "Asia is undoubtedly the next big thing in worldwide cruising and Hong Kong is ideal for this market, either as an exciting, convenient port of call or as the perfect hub for fly-cruise holidays."

Other travellers are also opting for Hong Kong as a holiday destination, with the country seeing 28.1 million international visitors last year, an 11.6 per cent increase on the previous year.

"2007 was an exceptional year for the UK market to Hong Kong, and we are confident of building on this success in the coming 12 months, " said Mr Lau.

At the end of 2006 Oasis Hong Kong Airlines began selling flights to Hong Kong for just £75 one way encouraging more people to visit the country, according to Cheapflights.co.uk.
