Record numbers choo-choosing Eurostar
26/10/2007
Record numbers of travellers opted for to take Eurostar's cross-Channel service during the last three months, it has been announced.
According to Channel-link rail service operator, 2.23 million passengers opted to head to France via its trains during the last three months - a rise of 3.6 per cent compared with the same period last years.
Eurostar attributes the growth to an influx of Britons travelling to the Rugby World Cup to follow the exploits of Johnny Wilkinson and the gang, but also to rising awareness of the reduced environmental impact of train travel.
Richard Brown, Eurostar chief executive, said: "The continued growth in traveller numbers - especially in the crucial business sector - shows that growing environmental concern and a desire for a hassle-free travel experience are persuading more people to choose Eurostar rather than the airlines."
The boost in passenger numbers helped the firm to post a 13.8 per cent rise in revenue to £148.5 million.
