Regional Airports Get Passenger Thumbs Up
07/04/2009
Flying from Blackpool, London City or Doncaster Sheffield airports this summer? Lucky you. According to a survey of 9,000 passengers, they are the three best airports in the whole of the country.
Perhaps not surprisingly, the two big London airports ? Heathrow and Gatwick ? were rated the worst in the UK.
Heathrow's Terminal 1 finished bottom of the Which? Holiday magazine satisfaction table with a score of 31%. The airport's Terminals 2, 3, and 4 were the next least-popular with those polled.
Gatwick's two terminals finished just above the Heathrow terminals in the table, though Heathrow's Terminal 5 (T5) seems to have recovered from its disastrous opening last year as it finished half way up the satisfaction table.
Passengers ranked T5's shopping and dining outlets particularly well. More than 3 out of 5 passengers who responded to the survey found time to shop before their flights, though holidaymakers are reminded not to wait till they arrive at the airport to buy travel insurance.
Leaving the purchase of travel insurance until the last minute will mean less time to shop around for the best deal. I will also leave you without the protection of cancellation cover.
Which? Holiday editor Lorna Cowan said: It seems clear that Which? members prefer the experience of flying from smaller regional airports to using the larger ones. So it is well worth looking into the routes offered from smaller airports when planning a holiday to short-haul destinations.""
