Ryanair launches latest seat sale following TV exposure
12/10/2009
Budget airline Ryanair will launch its latest seat sale at midnight, just hour's after the BBC screens a Panorama investigation in the airline which its boss has derided as a 'hatchet job'.
Panorama will examine Ryanair's cost-cutting measures, which include getting rid of airport check-in desks and charging passengers to check in online instead.
The programme makers claim Ryanair declined to be interviewed for Monday night's programme, titled Why Hate Ryanair?, because they were not given editorial control over the content.
Ryanair's chief executive Michael O'Leary has dismissed Panorama's claims has lies, saying that he agreed to a 'live' or unedited interview but this was turned down.
To back up its claims, Ryanair has published its correspondence with the BBC over the programme on its website www.ryanair.com
It says: Ryanair has wasted the last six weeks responding to BBC Panorama's false claims about Ryanair ? which is Britain's favourite airline carrying 66m passengers this year.
""Panorama has repeatedly refused Ryanair's offer of an unedited interview, either live or pre-recorded because they know that these false claims are rubbish and don't stand up to scrutiny.""
The programme is due to be shown at 8.30pm tonight and Ryanair will launch a seat sale at midnight hoping that the old maxim 'all publicity is good publicity' will apply in this case.
Mr O'Leary added: ""Ryanair will be launching another widely popular Seat Sale at midnight on Monday to expose Panorama's false claims, censorship and now sadly lies"".
